Website vs Funnel: What’s The Difference?

Website

A website allows a visitor to land on any page or blog post (such as this) then lets them follow links to any other pages or posts on the same website or another.

Its goal is to provide information.

Funnel

A funnel, on the other hand, leads the visitor through a linear sequence of actions (funnel pages) to accomplish one or more goals.

Its goals can include collecting the visitor’s contact information, getting them to sign up for an event such as a webinar, or selling them a product or multiple products.

How Is A Sales Funnel Constructed?

Russell Brunson, co-founder of ClickFunnels, detailed five distinct stages of an effective sales funnel

  1. Traffic – people who see your funnel’s landing (initial) page

  2. Bait – free or low-cost incentive you offer to get them to share their contact information

  3. Front End Offer – low-cost, low-risk offer that helps them solve an obvious problem and persuades them to enter their credit card number

  4. Middle Offer – higher-cost offer that helps them solve a deeper problem and prepares them for more intensive or extensive help

  5. Back End Offer – ultimate product or service that customers can use on a continual basis to solve an ever-present or recurring challenge.

How Are Sales Funnels Used In Your Affiliate Business?

As an affiliate marketer, you actually are 1) a traffic source for each of your vendors!

When someone clicks one of your affiliate links, they will be taken to the vendor’s sales funnel for that product…

…and the vendor's funnel will try to turn the visitor – whom you labored or paid to acquire – into THEIR OWN long-term customer.

To do this, your vendor’s funnel will 2) collect the visitor’s contact information, 3) offer the product you promoted, 4) offer additional products, and then – because they have the visitor’s contact information – they will be able to 5) offer them more and more products in the future.

Level The Playing Field

Because vendors typically will pay you a commission only on the product you promoted, two things become obvious:

  • You need your own funnels so you can get in on the action;

  • You need a way to build your own funnels or deploy ready-made ones;

  • You need your own digital products, such as the affiliate mentoring course which you could win in my challenge.

I use ClickFunnels* to do these things… because it gives me funnel superpowers with a minimum of technical know-how, and furthermore it lets me share my funnels with my customers…

For example…

If I were to help you set up your own affiliate business, you could download a copy of my whole funnel into your ClickFunnels account and use it as your own.

So What Would Your Funnel Look Like?

The funnel I would help you set up follows Russell’s plan closely…

  1. Traffic – you can use a variety of methods from Russell’s Traffic Secrets book to get visitors to your landing page.

  2. Bait – to collect visitors' first names and email addresses, you would offer a free opt-in funnel which they can set up to win their own free affiliate business.

  3. Front End Offer – they can join funnelcopia! Club to get a new high-quality affiliate product to promote each week (30 days free then $7/mo).

  4. Middle Offers – $97 bump to download Affiliate Click-Start mentoring course, $197 upsell to download an entire Challenge Funnel.

  5. Back End Offer – a steady stream of quality solutions for affiliate marketing challenges your subscribers will face while growing their business.

  • Eliminates my concern over the cost of paid advertising – because it earns back the money I paid for advertising

  • Allows me to scale my business bigger and bigger as I plow back some of my earnings into more and more paid traffic

  • Prepares my subscribers for ongoing value from me so I can offer them affiliate products as solutions to the problems (or ambitions) they encounter as they build their own affiliate business.
